Re: Dharma Wheels - a Buddhist biking pilgrimmage
Tue, July 10, 2007 - 9:03 AMI'm the co-coordinator of this year's ride! It happens Sept. 29-39 at no cost -- meals, snacks and a campsite Saturday night are provided (dana is welcome). The ride is fully supported with a gear truck, fully stocked aid stations and SAG vehicles. Any money that is donated covers costs, with any extra going to the dharma centers we visit. (In past years we've distributed as much as $2,000.)
Over two days we'll cover 150 miles of rural Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino counties with stops at 4 dharma centers (Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Sae Taw Win II, City ofTen Thousand Buddhas, Abhayagiri Monastery). Eugene Cash and Mark Coleman, two cycling Spirit Rock teachers, are tentatively going to join the ride this year. And as always, monks from Abhayagiri will send us on our way, follow the route and cheerlead at the aid stations, lead meditation outdoors under the oaks at the campground on Saturday night and Sunday morning, and welcome us to Abhayagiri on Sunday afternoon. It's such a wonderful experience!
You can register online or send me a message if you have questions.
Be well!

Sorry, forgot to post this one in time. But they are every year, about the same time of year, in September. I went to one of these in Central Park. Was very inspiring. A lot of Buddhist monks were in attendance, Phillip Glass performed, a very spiritual and inspiring day. -
