Breathing?

topic posted Wed, April 2, 2008 - 2:58 PM by  DrE.
I am looking a some breathing/chanting group to participate in. My main interest is in learning various forms of breathing for spiritual journeying and for healing. Any suggestions? East Bay would be my first preference.

Thanks,
Elizabeth

Well, in a traditional Hatha Yoga class, the exercises (asanas) are done in conjunction with specific breathing techniques...

it is certainly quite a spiritual practice

the same is true of Qi-Gong...

both Qi-Gong and Hatha Yoga are primarily health oriented, as opposed to spirituality...though, they help the body and by helping the body, help create peace...and that peace is the seed of quite a lot of spirituality.

    Zen Buddhist groups do chanting...

    here is one link:

and here is a link to find a Zen Buddhist Center:

    best of luck to you

Kundalini yoga is kind of a happy medium. It has the postures and breathing of yoga, but there's also a lot of chanting, making it more spiritual than most yoga classes.

Not sure about the east bay, but there's a nice little Kundalini yoga center on Waller and Ashbury in San Francisco.
